Dear Susan,

I send my deepest sympathy to you and your family. Losing Jimmy from our earth is a great loss to anyone who knew him since he was such a good friend to so many people. He used to tell me that he never met a stranger and he felt like he could talk to anyone. I believe this is true. He touched the lives of so many people in an inspirational way.

Though Jimmy was my third cousin since my maternal grandmother and his maternal grandmother were sisters growing up in Mulberry Grove, Georgia, I only saw him twice as a child when I rode on a train with my mother. My time knowing him as a dear cousin didn't start until 1999 when my mother, Phoebe J. Whisnant Revell, and I attended a family reunion lunch at the Bullock House and we sat with Jimmy and his mother, Lillian. Once Lillian passed away, Mother and I would call Jimmy about once a week since we knew he was so lonesome.  I enjoyed listening to his stories about growing up, attending Mountain Hill School, and then working for railroad companies.  
 
Susan, I am so happy that you and Jimmy found each other, married, and had this time together. You both were so good for each other. I so enjoyed it when we three would share funny jokes over the phone. 

I admire you so much for taking such could care of my cousin especially during the last years when he began to go downhill with his health. Thank you for reading my cards and letters to him that I sent to cheer him up once he was in long-term care facility. I appreciated this so much.  

Jimmy is gone, but a part of him will live on as each of his friends and family members remember his life and the wonderful stories he would share.  

As for me, each time I hear a train whistle I will remember my dear cousin, Jimmy.  If you, whether you were a friend or a relative to Jimmy, are still suffering as you grieve for him, I have written the following poem to comfort myself and I hope it will comfort you, too. Something as simple as a train whistle can make you remember Jimmy. 


I hear a train with its low, mournful sound /      
The whistle breaking the silence in the still of the night /
Then, at this moment, a feeling so profound /
Memories of Jimmy come flooding back like the bright light / 
Of a conductor's train lantern /
As he walks the tracks looking for    something lost /
Jimmy is lost to the rest of us since on January 13, 2015 his life did adjourn /
Leaving us, his family and friends, to cold, sad feelings as cold as frost / 
But, our grieving souls can find comfort in that sound /
'Cause each time a train whistle pierces the still of the night /
Your heart can warm and inner peace can be found /
Because you know Jimmy, in Heaven, hears every train whistle, too, in the still of a night /
So, pray to hear the train whistle each night /
To bring back memories of Jimmy and know that in Heaven he is alright

Susan, we were saddened to hear of Jamie's passing. We had the pleasure of knowing him briefly while he was still healthy and became good neighbors.  We will miss his train rides, fishing at the pond and lively conversations.  Our prayers are now with you and your family as we know Jimmy is with his Lord and Maker. It was mine and my Dad's pleasure to have been Jimmy's doctor for many years.I inherited Jimmy when my Dad retired along w many other fine railroad men and ther families. Sad to see the passing of Roy Roughton another fine railroad man as well.I must say Jamie did more than his share of bragging about how healthy he was to be in his 70's and then 80's.Fast talking confident and fine fellow and I missed the many chances he offered me to take my kid's up to ride his railroad and to go look at the railroad museum at the school.Susan you were a blessing to him and wish you could have shared more of his robust yr's.

Susan you and your family are in our thoughts and prayers. Jamie was a kind man and always had time for a word with you when he saw you. The community will miss him.

Jimmy started on the CofG the year I was born. Now I am retired. Jimmy was an awesome gentleman and an exceptional railroad Conductor. I always enjoyed working with him. May Susan and family find peace and love at this time. Jimmy was a bright light on earth and will be a bright light in heaven.

We send our deepest sympathies to you and your family. We are so sorry for the loss of Jamie. He has been missed and will be missed now more than ever. Jamie was a true gentleman. My sincere and heartfelt sympathy extended to you,Susan,and to all family members and friends during this sad occasion.I would pray that the lord would encircle everyone with comfort and peace thru this trying occasion. I know that Jim,and all family and friends,have suffered right there with him as his health declined but i have no doubt that a special place has been prepared in the house of the lord for jimmy. I feel the end of an era with the passing of jim.,who witnessed an amazing amount of change in the rail industry,he raised many of us as kids when we hired out and i know i"m much better off ,even with all tha "poppin tha whip" and tha but chewins,he definitely ranks high on my list of celebrities ----thanks for tha memories Big Jim, RIP.

Susan, Mike and I send our sincere condolences to you and your family.  We enjoyed many years knowing Jamie and his parents and were blessed to have had them in our lives.
