Janice S. Hart, age 86, of Marietta, Georgia passed away on Wednesday, September 27, 2023. A visitation for family and friends of Janice will be held Saturday, September 30, 2023 from 2:00 PM to 2:45 PM at Striffler-Hamby Mortuary - Columbus, 4071 Macon Rd, Columbus, Georgia 31907. Following the visitation, a graveside service at 3:00 PM at Parkhill Cemetery, 4161 Macon Road, Columbus, Georgia.
Janice was born on February 22, 1937 in Geneva County, Alabama; the daughter of Caron C. Sammons and Odessa Austin Sammons. Janice graduated from Jordan High School and attended Columbus Technical College. She was an ardent fan of the Atlanta Braves. She also really liked college football and split her college football allegiance between UGA and Auburn University. Janice was a bookkeeper for many years with Fountain, Arrington, Bass, Mercer, and Lee. She loved animals, especially dogs, her favorite were Boxers. The family wondered from time to time if their family’s dog, a Boxer, named Rocky, was mom’s “favorite child.” Janice would sit for hours at her glass door entertained by the birds at the bird feeder, squirrels and chipmunks running around the back yard. She loved her family and always loved spending time together. Attending family reunions was always a joyous occasion they always made her smile.
Janice is preceded in death by: her parents, Caron and Odessa Sammons; a son, Caron Frank Hart; and a brother, James E. Sammons.
Survivors include: her daughter, Janiece (her husband, Charlie) Smith; her granddaughters, Jessica (her husband, Jason) Hoot; Jennifer Smith (her fiancé, Matt Milanes); great grandchildren, Alexis Hoot and Connor Hoot.
