Janie Howell Hancock

Janie Howell Hancock, age 89 of Murfreesboro, TN passed away Thursday, June 4, 2026 at Community Care of Rutherford County in Murfreesboro, TN. Janie and her late husband, Ned Hancock owned & operated ESSCo in Tullahoma, TN (an office equipment and school supply company from 1972 to 2001). Janie was preceded in death by her father, Alvin Howell Sr.; mother, Izetta Howell Scruggs; husband, Ned Hancock; sister, Betty Dancause; and son-in-law, Tom Jones. She is survived by her son, Chuck Hancock, his wife Monica of Henderson, TX; daughter, Janet Jones, significant other, Wayne Davis of Murfreesboro, TN; sister, Margie Fowler of Columbus, GA; brother, Al Howell, his wife Beverly of Salem, AL; daughter-in-law, Barbara Hancock of Harmony, NC; granddaughter, Beth Lackey her husband Lee of Harmony, NC; great grandsons, Eli and Isaac Lackey of Harmony, NC; plus a host of other family and special friends.

Her family extends special thanks to the staff and her friends at Community Care of Rutherford County for the wonderful care and support she received.

Visitation will be held at 1:00 pm Friday, June 12, 2026, at Striffler-Hamby Mortuary 4071 Macon Rd. Columbus, GA 31907 with graveside service at 2:00 pm at Parkhill Cemetery 4161 Macon Rd. Columbus, GA 31907.
