Jay Benjamin Hecht III

A graveside funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM Friday, December 9, 2011 in Riverdale Cemetery with Rabbi Jeffery Salkin officiating according to Striffler-Hamby Mortuary, 4071 Macon Road, Columbus, GA, 31907. The family will receive friends this evening from 7:00 PM until 9:00 PM at the home of Carol Hecht, 1500 20th Street, Columbus, GA, 31901.

Mr. Hecht was born October 7, 1951, son of the late Jay Benjamin Hecht, Jr. and Jane Weil Hecht. Mr. Hecht followed in his family's footsteps into the restaurant supply business with The Hecht Company in Columbus, GA. He was very active in the Columbus community and loved his hometown very much. He continued his restaurant supply work in Atlanta, GA with Atlanta Fixture and then in Athens, GA with Manning Brothers restaurant supply. He was an avid tennis and baseball player in his youth and he always loved the Georgia Bulldogs.

In addition to his parents, Mr. Hecht was preceded in death by one sister, Ellen Weil Hecht.

Survivors include one son, Jay Benjamin Hecht, IV, and his wife Callie of Columbus, GA; one brother, Jon Richard Hecht and his wife, Leslie of Johns Creek, GA; one sister, Carol A. Hecht of Columbus, GA; one uncle, Richard A. Hecht of Columbus, GA; two nieces, Jennifer R. Hecht and Mariesa Manente of Johns Creek, GA and one nephew Alex Manente of Johns Creek, GA.
