Dear “Yayden”, what a life you’ve had. What a life you gave all of us. And what a legacy you leave behind. Ever since 4th grade, when I moved to Columbus from Philly not knowing a single person, you were one of the very first people to make me feel seen, welcomed, and cared for. That was just who you were. You had this rare ability to make people feel whole, like they mattered, like they belonged. I’ll forever cherish the little moments that became lifelong memories. Racing through multiplication tables in elementary school just so we could earn McDonald’s after. Me ordering the Filet-O-Fish every single time, and you getting the 10-piece nuggets without fail. As we got older, those moments turned into a brotherhood. Cookout runs, late night gym sessions, trips to New York, and ALL the laughs and tomfoolery in between. Out of all the people I’ve been blessed enough to meet in this life, you were truly one of the most genuine souls I have ever known. And I hope for the rest of my life I can carry even a fraction of the kindness, loyalty, and love you gave so freely to everyone around you. I love you until the end of days, brother. Thank you for the memories, the laughter, and the years of friendship. Until we meet again.

Jayden and I became friends in April of 2025, but from the very beginning I knew he was someone special. I remember waking up one morning during a really discouraging season of my life to the sweetest text from him reminding me that the Lord had a plan for my life. Before that, we had barely even talked, but after receiving that message, I knew there was something different about him.

Our friendship grew quickly, and we bonded over the gym, cooking, faith, movies, and the Mike Tyson memes we would send back and forth. Jayden was one of the kindest and most compassionate people I have ever known. In a room full of loud people trying to be the center of attention, Jayden was always quietly in the back. He carried a humility about him that is so rare. He was a peacemaker and always wanted everyone around him to get along and have a good time. He had a calmness about him that made people feel comfortable.

I had the privilege of meeting Jayden’s family in May of last year, and it was so easy to see where his heart came from. He always talked so highly of them, especially his mama. He would light up talking about their trips together and his tattoos. It was clear the way he loved people came from the love he was surrounded by at home.

Jayden remembered the little things. Last May, I told him I had never received flowers before. Months later, for my 23rd birthday, he brought me tulips because he remembered they were my favorite. That was just who he was. Thoughtful in ways that made people feel truly seen.

The other day, I was telling my dad about how kind and comforting Jayden was, and he simply said, “It sounds like the world is going to miss Jayden.” I cannot think of a truer statement.

Jayden was one of a kind and the kind of person this world needed more of. He loved people the way Jesus calls us to, quietly and intentionally. I will always be grateful for his friendship and the example he set. He will be deeply missed.

I have struggled for the past week trying to find the answer to the question: Why you? Of all the evil and imperfect people in the world, why did one of the most compassionate and kindly people I know, had to be taken from me, and so many others who knew him lives? The answer is that heaven has set the bar high with one of its newest angels, Jayden Barreto.

Since 2016, I have come to grow with Jayden and admire his 
qualities, and appreciate the happiness that he brought to others. From Columbus Highschool community service where I first got to know him, to becoming fully fledged young men, he never failed at making me smile. I'll never forget hitting the griddy in Fortnite, taking down the 'sweats' in Call of Duty, going to the gym and watching Larry Wheels deadlift 2 school buses while choking down whatever brand of chicken finger after leg days... the list goes on.

Even after moving overseas during my senior year of high school, and subsequently moving back to attend UGA, our friendship never remained stagnant. It will always continue flourishing, because Jayden will always have a spot in my heart for the rest of my life. 

I encourage people to live vicariously through him and practice in replicating his actions and words because Jayden was not average or just a good man, he was an extraordinary one. 

I will love and miss you until the day we meet again, and still can't believe that you're really gone.

It’s hard to believe that I only knew Jayden for less than a year because the impact he left was far greater than I ever could have imagined. We met at Coastal in July of 2025 and from day one our group of 5 instantly clicked. Work was a place I looked forward to going to every day, and he was a big part of that. It’s hard to say exactly when I knew he was an amazing person, but it didn’t take long. I always admired how kind, thoughtful, and intentional he was, and especially how much love he had for his family and friends. He was always willing and happy to grab coffee with me, listen to my stories I would accidentally repeat, play trivia during our lunch breaks, voluntarily sit in Atlanta traffic just to hang out, basically anything to make myself and others happy. I think my favorite thing about him, which many know, was his sense of humor. I genuinely thought he was the funniest person I had ever met and we never stopped laughing. Life will never be the same without him but how lucky are we to have known him. Sending so much love to his family and friends ❤️

I first met Jayden on an online interview, and remember being impressed with how incredibly poised and confident he was for someone about to graduate college. Hiring him was an easy choice, and he became a wonderful addition to our team. Jayden was a genuinely kind and thoughtful person, always willing to support his peers. He brought a dry sense of humor to the team, and I will miss seeing his smile around the office. My heartfelt thoughts and condolences go out to Jayden's family and friends. Rest in peace, Jayden - you were a remarkable young man and you will be missed immensely.

Jayden, I will forever be grateful for your friendship and the chance I had to get to know your kind heart. Thank you for all the laughter and encouragement over the past few years. Your smile and contagious joy are missed beyond words. Words will never be able to capture your kindness and compassion but I pray that you know how loved you are and that not a day will go by without us missing you. There are truly no words to describe the kind of friend Jayden was. I love this picture because I think it perfectly describes our friendship. He always knew how to keep me laughing and never failed to make me feel heard and seen. He never once let me forget that he was in my corner always, and I truly believe I will never have another friend that understands me the way that Jayden understood me. His grace was never ending. 

One of my favorite memories I have with him is from last summer. I had found a dresser on Facebook marketplace and there was just no way I would be able to pick it up myself. Jayden was the first person I called, and without even a second thought, he agreed to meet me at 8 in the morning at some random persons apartment to help me lug it into my trunk. And of course he kept his word, and in the pouring rain at 8 in the morning, Jayden showed up in his work uniform and helped me load the dresser up before his early shift at Ramsey. I felt terrible, but Jayden had a smile on his face the entire time and had me laughing so hard I almost dropped the dresser at least three times. This is such a simple moment that I would normally not think twice about, but I really believe that this small memory truly describes the kind of person and friend that Jayden embodied. He showed up for his people no matter what, even when it meant standing in the pouring rain. He was the type of friend to wait for me in the parking deck before work and bring an umbrella for me when it was raining, because he knew I always forgot mine. He was the type of friend that noticed when my mood would shift in a public setting and immediately text me and ask if everything was ok. He was the type of friend to send you a funny TikTok just to let you know he was thinking of you. And I miss my friend so much.  

My heart goes out to everyone affected by such a tragic loss, and my love goes to his family.

I don’t think I ever ran into Jayden without seeing a bright smile on his face. He was one of the sweetest and most genuine people I’ve ever met, and his presence could light up the entire gym. He was deeply loved by everyone around him and always seemed to see the best in people.

I’m going to miss all the laughs and workouts we had together. You changed my life in the best way possible and I can’t thank you enough for that.

Jayden was one of the kindest, most genuine people you could ever meet. From the very first moment I met him five years ago, it was clear he was going to be an incredible friend. He had a way of lighting up any room, always making people laugh, and he consistently went out of his way for the people he cared about.

One memory I’ll always hold onto is when he helped me blow up balloons early in the morning to surprise his best friend. He knew how much it meant to me and immediately asked how he could help. Without hesitation, he was up before everyone else, blowing up balloon after balloon and even letting me snap a picture of him half-asleep. That moment says so much about the love and dedication he had for the people in his life. 

He was loved by so many, and that love continues on. ❤️

This was us just last year. I met you when I was  a shy freshman starting at Ramsey and you made me feel so welcome. 3 years later and I am so very grateful for every moment we got to spend together and how close we grew. I loved every shift we worked together and hearing about your travels and new tattoos. You always made me laugh and feel seen. I will miss you so so dearly and am so grateful for the time we had together.

Jayden is a close brother of mine and a forever friend. From having high school literature class at CHS, to spending countless hours studying at UGA, working out at ramsey, listening to lil baby, or even just watching UFC fights, I will always cherish those moments and memories with him. He was one of the most generous, authentic, and sweetest person I know, and he always wanted the best for his friends and family. I love him so much like my own brother and I will never forget our countless times together and will prosper them forever.

Some silly memories for anyone who would like to experience the joy and laughter of receiving a snap/facetime of Jayden

I worked reduced hours at Ramsey and often felt imposter syndrome due to the little time I got to spend with everyone. Regardless, Jayden was so incredibly kind to me and extraordinarily talented at making me feel like I belonged. I always looked for his name on the schedule, knowing that if he were there, I had laughs and silly front desk games ahead of me. This photo is from the day he let me see the Ramsey roof, an incredible memory from UGA that I will have forever, all thanks to him. 

Jayden has such a rare, beautiful soul and was one of those people you can’t help but think deserve everything in the world..

Jayden was an immediate friend and my experience at college was made all the better because of knowing him. It’s a tragedy for us to have to experience this too soon, but what a joy it was to make late night runs to Taco Bell, listen to new album releases, and support our friends in their life achievements. Jayden is the strongest man with the kindest heart and best smile. His presence and hilarious commentary will be missed the most. What a blessing all the memories we made are. My thoughts and prayers are with his family and all the friends we made along the way ❤️

I met Jayden at Coastal less than a year ago. I was drawn to his kind and thoughtful energy, and we quickly became friends. Spending time with him and the others in our “TIDE” class made work so much fun. Whether it was cracking jokes or having random conversations, I always enjoyed spending time with him. As time went on, our work group quickly became close and we began going on trips and routinely hanging out outside of work. Jayden was always a big part of this, and he was always down to hang out and have a good time. We are all devastated by this loss and are really going to miss him. My thoughts and prayers go out to his family and friends.

Brotha I’m really going to miss you. I don’t know what else to say

Jayden and I were best friends from the time we were in Pre-K until the day he passed. He was always a joy to spend time with, but once he truly opened up to you, the laughter never stopped. However, the laughs weren’t just what made Jayden my best friend; it was the hours and hours we spent together hanging out, playing games, talking about everything in our lives, and simply having the most fun two kids could have. No matter what happened or what we were doing, we always found something to joke about—especially when we stayed up way past our bedtimes and had those delirious, hilarious 2 a.m. conversations. I will forever look back on my time with him as some of the best moments of my life, and I wish more than anything that we could go back to reminiscing together about the “good old days.”

To Jayden:
I love you, buddy, and I’m really going to miss you. I hope you are having an incredible time in heaven and are living the good life. All your friends and family will be alright down here, but we will miss you every second for the rest of our lives. It is going to be hard learning how to live without you.

To Jayden’s family:
I can’t begin to imagine the thoughts, feelings, and pain you are experiencing right now, and I’m so sorry you have to go through this. Throughout all of the conversations we’ve had over these 24 years, Jayden never stopped talking about how much he loved all of you. I’m sure he’s looking down on you now, wishing he could give you one more hug or spend more time with you. As hard as it will be, I know that Jayden would want everyone to live their lives to the fullest. If any of you need anything, I will always be here to support you in every way I can. Please do not hesitate to reach out to me. I love you all.

I'd like to offer my condolences. It can't be easy what you're going through, but the Bible has many verses that can comfort you. And this doesn't surprise us: “For all the things that were written beforehand were written for our instruction,f so that through our enduranceg and through the comfort from the Scriptures we might have hope”. (Romans 15:4).
Look at the encouraging words the Bible gives us: “Jehovah is close to the brokenhearted;
He saves those who are crushed in spirit.
Many are the hardships of the righteous one,
But Jehovah rescues him from them all”. (Psalms 34:18,19).
God is with us especially when we are sad and encourages us through his Word.
