Jeanette M. Jones, 94 of Columbus Georgia passed away peacefully on Wednesday, July 1, 2026. Jeanette was born February 1, 1932, at Walkertown, WV. The beloved daughter of the late Hershel Gaston Clark and Chloe Mae Clark.
Jeanette grew up in West Virginia, where she developed her lifelong values of family and faith. Throughout her 94 years, she touched countless lives with her kindness, warmth, and enduring spirit. She was a devoted wife, mother, sister, grandmother, friend who dedicated her life to bringing joy to those around her. Her legacy of love will continue to live on through the family she cherished so deeply.
She spent her young years on a mountain near coal mines in Eccles, WV. After graduating from Trap Hill High School, she moved to Columbus GA, to live with her oldest sister, Geneva. It was there she met the love of her life Rex O. Jones while working in Stanton’s Cafe Columbus GA. They were married in 1952. She was an amazing Army wife and wonderful mother raising her five children. Her time as a military spouse took her to Sandia Base NM, Fort Knox KY. During a two-year deployment for Rex, the family moved back to her childhood home Eccles, West Virginia. It was there her young children experienced country life and cherished making memories with ‘Grandma Clark’ and their extended family.
Jeanette’s life of 94 years evolved around family and friends. She loved gospel singing and music, cooking her famous chili, knitting and taking pictures at every family gathering always bringing a smile to everyone’s face. Serving the Lord teaching Sunday School at Benning Park Assembly of God was a joyful time in her life. Jeanette was a faithful member Edgewood Assembly of God Church.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 55 years Rex O. Jones; her daughter, Nancy Jones; her three sisters, Geneva Athleen Roark, Hildred Yvonne Wills, Nellie Katherine Savino; and her two brothers Harold (Buddy) Clark and Hershel Clark.
Those left to cherish her memory include her daughter Sharon Coleman (Jim) of Ellerslie, GA; her sons, Kenneth Jones (Rita) of Smiths Station AL, Joe Jones (Gina), and Wesley Jones, both of Columbus GA; her three sisters, Patsy Hill (Fred), Betty Cantley (Earnie), and Shirley Agens all of Palm Coast, FL; and her sisters-in-law, Jeanie Clark of Streamwood, IL., Carol Clark of Oak Hill, West VA. Betty Middleton of Columbus, GA and Evelyn Whitehead of Upatoi, GA. ” Blessed with Seven Granddaughter’s Cindy Spencer (Jeremy), Melissa Wheelis (Gabe), Sandra Hilts (Johnney), Tonya Moody (Chris), Carrie Sakatos (Simon), Latasha Jones, Kimberly Samson (Matt), Thirteen Great-Grandchildren and two Great-Great-Grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
She also leaves behind a lifetime of belongings to her daughter and sons, who have absolutely no idea what to do with it.
Visitation with family will be held at Striffler Hamby Mortuary, 4071 Macon Road, Columbus, Georgia 31907 on Sunday, July 5, 2026, 1:00 - 2:00 PM. The Funeral Service will follow at 2:00 PM in the Fisher Chapel with Pastor Charles Hays officiating.
A private family burial will take place at Parkhill Cemetery, Columbus, GA.
