A funeral service will be held on Thursday January 27, 2021 at 3:00 PM in the Mill Room of Striffler-Hamby Mortuary. Family will visit with friends before the service at the funeral home. Burial will be in Parkhill Cemetery. In lieu of flowers memorial donations can be made to Columbus Hospice at www.columbushospice.com.
Jerald Alan Houston was born on February 15, 1945 in Atlanta, Georgia to the late Doris Louise Nichols Houston and Charles Pressley Houston. He was a 1963 graduate of Jordan Vocational High School, graduating with ROTC Honors. He joined the United States Navy in February of 1964 and served on the US Borie. Jerald was honorably discharged and transferred to the Reserves in December of 1965. Jerald attended Columbus College graduating with honors in Political Science, American History, and Government. He did his undergraduate studies with the University of Georgia. He was married to Cristina Prosper Houston. He called Columbus, Georgia home, Jerald worked for many years at Bill Heard Chevrolet as their insurance manager. He also worked with Independent Life Insurance Company, Action Building in sales and was a substitute teacher with the Muscogee County School district.
Jerald is preceded in death by other than his parents Doris and Charles Houston by his brothers, Charles "Chuck" Houston, Richard "Ricky" Houston, and Wayne Houston.
He is survived by his wife Cristina Houston; sons: Carlos Lee Houston and Cristopher Alan Houston; his grandchildren: Cristiana Houston, Carina Houston, Auriannah Fluellen, Alexis Everson, Elise Houston, Giancarlo Houston, and Cayden Houston; one precious niece Audra Houston Wright; sisters-in-law: Carol Houston and Ophelia “Ophe” Houston; longtime high school/Navy friends: Joseph “Joe” Cantrell, Anthony “Tony” Driver, Larry Jones, Steve Arrowood, and James Tyler; and numerous other family members.
