Jere Whittington DePratt

Jere Whittington DePratt passed away peacefully on Oct. 23, in Columbus, Georgia surrounded by her loving family and friends. Jere was predeceased by parents Col. Jere O. Whittington and Peggy Hendricks Whittington. She is survived by her husband of 48 years Al DePratt, Jr.; son Al DePratt III, (Columbus); and granddaughter Taylor DePratt (New York); siblings Anne Whittington (Greg); John Whittington (Denise); Katy Gembarowksi (Paul) and many nieces, nephews, cousins and loyal friends. She loved them all and followed their lives, particularly the light of her life, granddaughter Taylor.

Born in Ft. Campbell, KY, Jere traveled the world with her family to Spain, Germany and Africa. She graduated from high school in Carlisle, PA and attended college in Virginia then began working as a legal assistant. Jere made her final move with her family to Ft. Benning, GA where she met and married Al. She began working for Aflac where she worked for 30 years before retiring as a supervisor. She continued working for several years before completely retiring and enjoying her movie dates with friends and occasional trips to Biloxi.

The family would like to thank special friends Liz and Terry who helped so much through her illness. They would also like to thank the team at Piedmont Hospital for their care and support. Memorial services will follow in the near future.
