Jerry Eugene Mears, age 67, of Salem, AL, passed away on May 22, 2019. A funeral service will be held at 11 am on Wednesday, May 29, 2019 at Striffler-Hamby Mortuary. Interment will be in Parkhill Cemetery.
Jerry was born on April 21, 1952 in Columbus, GA; the son of Robert Hayes Mears and Willowdean Kirkland Mears. Jerry grew up in Columbus and was a member of the 1971 graduating class of Hardaway High School.
Jerry was a butcher for most of his life, an old school trained meat cutter. He worked and managed the meat departments of several grocers through the years, including, Winn-Dixie, Publix, Wal-Mart, and Rainbow Foods. Jerry always enjoyed camping, fishing, and riding dirt bikes when he was younger. Like many of us, he enjoyed college football and loved his Georgia Bulldogs. What he loved most was spending time with family and friends, and especially his son Dakota.
He is preceded in death by his parents and a sister-in-law, Jennifer D. Mears. Survivors include; a son Dakota Mears; two brothers, Billy Mears, Gary Mears; many nieces, nephews, and friends.
