Jewell Rhodes

Jewell Rhodes, age 89, of Columbus, Georgia passed away on Monday, April 26, 2021. Funeral service will be held on Friday, April 30, 2021 at 3:00 PM, 4071 Macon Rd, Columbus, Georgia 31907; a visitation will be held prior to services from 2:00 until 2:50 pm.

Jewell was born October 30, 1931 in Cordele, Georgia; the daughter of Theo Blackshear Columbus Walls and Bessie Lee Phillips Walls. She graduated from East Crisp High School and Perry Business School. Jewell gained employment as a civil servant on Ft. Benning in the military payroll department, a department she would eventually retire from. Jewell was married to Walter Edwin Rhodes, they made their home in Columbus. Jewell volunteered with Chattahoochee BSA Council and with troop 107. She was enthralled with owls, watching them, learning about them and collecting owl related things was always time well spent for Jewell. She enjoyed flowers and enjoyed working in her yard. She was known as the candy lady at church, she always had candy for the children at church and her grandchildren. Jewell was a Christian and lived a life of service to her fellow man and emulated her savior as best she could throughout her life.

Jewell is preceded in death by her husband.

Survivors include: her two sons, Donald Rhodes, Stephen Rhodes; grandchildren Chris Rhodes, Tabitha Rhodes Harris; great grandchildren, Tiffiny and Travis Rigsby, Nikki and Cody Mitchell, Cody and Melissa Strickland, Michael Rhodes, Chesley Rhodes, Kristy Rhodes, Michael Harris, Whitney Harris Amber Russell, Ashley Brock; 21 great great grandchildren; her sister Carolyn Fendley and two nieces and two nephews.
