Jim Neal Shierling, age 77, of Columbus, Georgia passed away on Friday, October 26, 2018. Neal was born July 24, 1941 in Columbus, Georgia to his late parents Margaret Bumgarner and Eugene Shierling.
After high school, Neal proudly served his country in the United States Air Force where he met and married the love of his life, Linda. Returning to Columbus, he began his 40 year civil service career as an Electronic Technician at Fort Benning. Neal was a Godly man and Deacon at Northside Baptist. He taught his children to trust in the Lord and love their family. Neal enjoyed hunting, fishing, going to the gym, and spending time with family. He will always be remembered as “the candy man” and a faithful servant of God by all who knew and loved him.
Other than his parents, Neal was preceded in death by his brother William Shierling; sisters, Gail Woods, Bernice Webb, and Judy Webb. He is survived by his loving wife of 51 years, Linda Blankenship Shierling; daughters, Cherryl Amick and Michelle Barnes (Jason); sisters, Brenda Lamb, Carolyn Woods (Wayne), Lisa Bishop (Jerry), Twyla Joann Mobley, and Glenda Hepner (Harvey); grandchildren, Taylor Bruhn, Bryce Barnes, Lance Barnes, Tori Bloodworth (Christian) and Macy Amick; great grandchildren, Audrey Bruhn and Oliver Bloodworth; several nieces, nephews, other family members, and many, many friends.
A Visitation for Neal will be held Tuesday, October 30, 2018 starting at 12:00 Noon in Edgewood Hall of Striffler-Hamby, 4071 Macon Rd, Columbus, GA 31907. A Celebration of Neal's Life will follow at 2:00 PM in Edgewood Hall, with a Committal Service in Parkhill Cemetery, 4161 Macon Road, Columbus, Georgia 31907.
