A Celebration of Life will be held at Wynnton Methodist Church on July 27 at 2:00 pm. Rev. Steve Croft and Rev. Dr. Jason Wade will be officiating. Visitation will be at the Church at 1:00 pm. Members of the Goodwill Sunday School Class will be honorary pallbearers.
Joan lived in Columbus, Georgia, from the age of four, Columbus became her forever home. Joan was a lifelong member of Wynnton Methodist Church. On August 3, 1951, Joan married William A. Colquitt, her beloved husband for sixty-four years. Together, they enjoyed taking trips, cruises, spending time at their Florida Condo, and providing a home that was always open to their family.
Joan lived an active and full life, from her first job as a telephone operator to her position in the Muscogee County School System’s School Library department. School librarians praised her for ability to mentor young librarians, her helpfulness, and her kindness. Joan was a devoted member of Wynnton, where she served on various committees, participating in Church events, and she was a Greeter for many years. Joan was a member of the Goodwill Sunday School Class at Wynnton. All of her children were raised in the Church, as well as many of her Columbus grand- and great-grandchildren. Joan was a very talented seamstress, creating play clothes, Easter dresses, unique prom dresses, and even bathing suits. She passed her ability on to her daughters and some granddaughters. Her other great passion, which has passed down to all of her children and “grands,” was a love of reading. Her warm and radiant smile will be missed, it had the power to uplift your spirits, give comfort, and make one feel welcome.
Joan is survived by her four children: Cathy Woolbright (David), Judy Ottman (Bob), Becky Boswell (Barry), and Jeff Colquitt (Belana); eight grandchildren, Kelli Isaac (Evan), Bret Woolbright (Laura Lee), Lauren Francis (Michael), Stephanie Reynolds (Rick), Jessica Guthrie (Jonathon), Becca W. Beck (Ben), Mallory Nelson (Chadwick), and David Bret- DB- Woolbright; eleven greatgrandchildren, Jace Meadow, Jonathan Isaac, Blakelee Francis, Ernie Beck, Henley Francis, Gus Beck, Benjamin Nelson, Wyatt Reynolds, Frank Beck, Phoebe and Poppy Nelson. Joan is also survived by her brother, Jerry Trice (Kathryn), nephew Will Trice, sister-in-law, Mavis Trice, nephew Matt Trice (Shannon), and niece Cali Trice.
She is predeceased by her beloved husband, William A. Colquitt; another brother, Rev. James T. Trice, and nephew, Chris Trice and niece Linda C. Woodall.
