Joan Whitehurst

Visitation will be Wednesday April 6, 2022 from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM in the St. Elmo Room at Striffler-Hamby Mortuary, Columbus, Georgia. A service to celebrate Joan’s life will be held on Thursday April 7, 2022 at 2:00 PM in the Edgewood Hall of Striffler-Hamby Mortuary, Columbus, Georgia. Burial will follow the service in Parkhill Cemetery.

Joan was born on March 31, 1943 in Lyons, Georgia daughter to Mary Lou Grimes and Oather Stevenson Grimes. She was married to Robert L. Whitehurst. Joan and Robert were the owners of Cody Road Trophies & Jewelry. She loved a good cup of coffee, an ice-cold cola (Coke or RC) out of a glass bottle, her family and a relaxing day at the beach were just a few of the things that Joan loved. Her family was her universe. Joan loved life, she loved large and will be greatly missed by all who knew and especially loved her.

Joan leaves her loving memory to be cherished by her husband Robert Whitehurst; her children: Stefanie Stone, Bonny (Alan “Binky”) Haas, Phebe (Mark) Tryon, and Robert (Linda) Whitehurst, Jr.; her grandchildren: Ashley (Chris) Davis, Brittany Cloud, Kara Strickland, Meghan (Jacob) Bramley, Courtney (Corey Stuart) Haas, Parker Stone, Madelyn (Nick) Carrasquilla, Henry Whitehurst, Daniella Sears, and Ethan and James; her sister Jackie (Jerry) Mayes; her great grandchildren: Isabella Reuber, Mayleigh Davis, Ava Cloud, Braelyn Bramley, Harper Bramley, Kennedy Bramley, Madison Bramley, Joseph Stuart, and Athena Stuart; many nieces, nephews and other relatives. Joan is preceded in death by other than her parents Mary Lou and Oather Grimes; her brothers: Cecil Grimes, Earl Grimes, Clifford Grimes and Ovad Grimes.
