

He was born to the late Ralph Johnson and Ruby Johnson, November 3, 1928 in Chipley, FL. He married Lois R. Johnson on June 10, 1949 in Columbus, GA and resides in Phenix City, AL.
Joel was an active member of The Rose Hill Mason Lodge, The Columbus-Ft. Benning Shrine Club, The Scottish Rite, The Al Sihah Temple in Macon, GA, and a retired Veteran. Joel was a Construction Superintendent for Wright and Associates Inc. and built many buildings in the Columbus area including the AFLAC Towers. He loved to travel and took many trips around the world with his loving wife.
Joel is survived by his wife of 64 years, Lois R. Johnson their three children; Steve Johnson and his wife Gail, Chris Johnson and his wife Debbie, and Tim Johnson and his wife Debbie Sue. He is also survived by a brother, Bill Johnson, two sisters, Sylvia Alligood, and Patricia Keller, and seven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Joel was a hard working, loving and wise person. He was an amazing husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He was an inspiration to many, especially his grandchildren, whom he admired.
In lieu of flowers the family request donations be made to The Shriners Hospital for Children: 950 West Faris Street Greenville, SC 29605. And also to Gentiva Hospice: 2425 Williams Road Columbus, GA 31904, because of their kindness and great care of Joel.
Visitation will be held from 6-8 pm, on Sunday, August 25, 2013 at Striffler-Hamby Mortuary 4071 Macon Road Columbus, GA.
Graveside services will be held at 3:00 pm, Monday, August 25, 2013 at Parkhill Cemetery.
