A graveside service will be held on Tuesday, January 10, 2017 at 2:00 PM in Fort Mitchell National Cemetery, Fort Mitchell, Alabama. Family will receive friends on Sunday, January 8, 2017 from 2:00 PM until 4:00 PM at Striffler-Hamby, 4071 Macon Rd, Columbus, Georgia.
John Clifford Smith was born on March 29, 1935 in Portal, Georgia to the late Frank Riley Smith and Myrtle Mae Counts Smith. He faithfully served his country in the U.S. Army for 22 ½ years, serving during the Korean and Vietnam conflict. After retirement from the U.S. Army he worked in maintenance at an apartment complex in Columbus, Georgia. John was married to Jane L. Fletcher Smith for over 31 years. He enjoyed spending time with his family and friends.
He is survived by his wife, Jane L. Fletcher Smith; his daughters, Jessica Smith (Ally), Michelle Cassera (Alexander), Pam Corona (Jon), Deby Payne (Greg), and Kathy Hamilton (LaVern); ten grandchildren; five great-grandchildren and numerous other relatives.
