John was born July 12, 1990, in Columbus, Georgia, to Kathelen Amos and Tracy Spencer. John graduated from Brookstone School in 2009 and ob¬tained a Bachelor of Arts in Environmental Studies from Washington & Lee Univer¬sity in 2013. After gradua¬tion he worked as a student assistant at Trinity School in Mar Del Plata, Argentina, where he was embraced by the school and by his host family, Cecilia and Jeronimo Mariani, and their three sons. In 2014, John began studies for a masters de¬gree from the Odum School of Ecology at the University of Georgia, with a focus on urban fresh water.
John was a lover of life. His love for the outdoors and enjoyment of God’s cre-ation was surpassed only by his heart for people. He had a smile that would light up a room and a presence that drew people in. He had a gift for making others feel special and important, whether age 5 or 95. John will be remembered for his bear hugs, shoulder rubs, and ability to make anyone in the room laugh. John was easy to love and loved his family and friends so well.
John was predeceased by his grand¬parents, Constance Van Blarcum, and J. Kyle and Sally D. Spencer, and aunt, Louise Spencer Dupre. He is survived by his mother and stepfather, Kathelen V. and Daniel P. Amos, his father and stepmother, Tracy E.D. and Kathy M. Spencer, sisters Laura Elizabeth Spencer and Margaret Winford Spencer, and de¬voted girlfriend Jacqueline Tandy Menk. Survivors include stepsiblings Lauren A. Amos (Tyler Clayton), Paul S. Amos II (Court¬ney), George S. Moore IV (Christy), Emily M. Mullins (Ryan), and Jonathan A. Moore, uncles, Daniel P. Dupre, James K. Spencer, Jr. (Lynna), Richard P. Spen¬cer (Mary Leslie), and first cousins Emma L. Dupre, Elizabeth A. Spencer, Mary Frances Spencer, Richard P. Spencer, Jr., Sara G. Spen¬cer, and Ruby K. Spencer.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests a memorial donation to the University of Georgia’s Odum School of Ecology. 140 East Green Street, Athens, Georgia, 30602.
