Joseph E. Shirley

Joseph E. Shirley, 68, of Columbus, GA died at St. Francis Hospital Monday, May 14, 2012. Funeral Services will be held at 2:00p.m. on Thursday, May 17, 2012 in the Striffler-Hamby Mortuary, Macon Road Chapel with Reverend Paul Thomas. Burial will follow in Parkhill Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 5:00 until 7:00p.m. this evening at the funeral home.

Mr. Shirley was born August 18, 1943 in Hartford , AL son of the late C.J. and Eula Bolin Shirley. He had retired from the Muscogee County School System where he was the Assistant Director of Transportation for Special Needs children. Mr. Shirley was an active member of Evangel Temple Assembly of God and a founding member of the Seekers Quartet. We will always remember his wisdom and cherish his memories in our hearts forever.

Mr. Shirley is survived by his wife of 44 years, Gayle Railey Shirley; two sons, Kevin Shirley and his wife, Andrea and Rodney Shirley and his wife, Pam; two sisters, Ceretha Osborn and her husband, James, and Debbie Overby; six grandchildren, Clayton, Railey, Hope, Lane, Braden and Brittly; nieces, nephews and numerous friends.
