
Mrs. Laska was born October 19, 1919 in Arkport, New York to the late Fred and Jesse Pierce Lawrence. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, John Laska. After her marriage to John Laska in 1939, they moved to Castleton on the Hudson, and her only son, John Larry Laska, was born in Albany, New York. Subsequently the family moved to Largo, Florida and later to Clearwater where Mrs. Laska lived for almost fifty years. She worked for 20 years with the Board of Elections of Pinellas County.
In 2004, Mrs. Laska moved to Columbus and was a longtime resident at Spring Harbor Retirement Community, where she enjoyed the many activities offered there. An excellent cook, skilled card player and, at 94, a two year member of the championship WI Bowling team at Spring Harbor, Joyce took advantage of opportunities to be engaged in life. Her family in Columbus enjoyed having her close by, and they visited almost every day. She was a member of St. Luke United Methodist Church and was a member of the Fellowship/Jesus is Lord Sunday School Class.
Survivors include her son, John (Kayron) of Columbus, grandsons Chrysor Jordan ( Hilde ) of Bilthoven, The Netherlands, and Lawrence Laska of Columbus.
Funeral services will be at 3:00 pm, on Monday, December 19, 2016 in the Turner Chapel of St. Luke United Methodist Church, Columbus, Ga, with Revered Cynthia Cox Garrard officiating. The family will greet friends following the service.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Spring Harbor Foundation, Columbus Hospice, or to the St. Luke music scholarship fund, or the St. Luke TV ministry fund in memory of Joyce Laska.
