Katharina M. Cunningham

Katharina M. Cunningham, age 87, of Columbus, Georgia passed away on Thursday, December 7, 2023. A visitation for family and friends for Katharina will be held Thursday, December 14, 2023 from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Striffler-Hamby Mortuary - Columbus, 4071 Macon Rd, Columbus, Georgia 31907. A graveside service will be held Friday, December 15, 2023 at 11:00 am at Ft. Mitchell National Cemetery.

Katharina was born in Munich, Germany on September 13, 1936; the daughter of JoHann and Kreszentia Birneder. She married James G. Cunningham of Clarksburg, West Virginia on April 3, 1959. Katharina became a Naturalized Citizen on December 14, 1970. She worked for the Army Air Force Exchange Service (AAFES), retiring in 2002. She enjoyed spending time in her garden, crocheting blankets that she donated to the needy and rescuing stray cats.

Katharina is preceded in death by: her husband, James Cunningham.

Katharina is survived by: her sister, Inge Kalteis; a daughter, Alexandra (Rainer) Britsch; her two sons: James G. (Susan) Cunningham Jr. and John C. (Robin) Cunningham both of Columbia, SC; four grandchildren: Barbara, Timothy, Alex, and Noah; and two great grandchildren, Lea and Lukas.
