On February 17, 1943, he entered active service in the United States Army in Salt Lake City, Utah. Mr. Morgan trained at Fort Benning, Georgia as a paratrooper, serving in the 101 Airborne Division. He served as a light machine gunner and was awarded the Combat Infantryman Badge, Good Conduct Medal and Victory Medal as well as the American Theater of Operations Service Ribbon and European African Middle Eastern Service Ribbon. Mr. Morgan was married to the late Mary Elizabeth Wright Morgan. Together they lived in the Columbus area where he worked for years as a transmission mechanic at Columbus Motor Company and at Bill Heard Chevrolet automobile dealerships. Mr. Morgan was Christian by faith. He loved his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, his family and his country. Mr. Morgan will be greatly missed by all who knew and especially loved him.
He leaves his loving memory to be cherished by his daughter, Becky Mann (Rusty Simpson); his son Keath (Virginia) Morgan; son-in-law George Allen; his grandchildren: Michael Keath (Mary Frances) Morgan, Charles “Chas” (Hannah) Mann IV, Brandy Johnson, and Brian Allen; six great grandchildren; and a host of other family members and great friends. Mr. Morgan was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Elizabeth Morgan, and his daughter Kim Morgan Allen.
A visitation for family and friends for Mr. Morgan will be held Wednesday, June 7, 2023 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at Striffler-Hamby Mortuary, 4071 Macon Rd, Columbus, Georgia 31907. Following the visitation for family and friends will be a graveside service with military honors at 11:00 AM in Parkhill Cemetery, 4161 Macon Rd, Columbus, Georgia 31907.
