Kenneth devoted 30 years of faithful service to the U.S. Postal Service, work he carried out with steady commitment and pride. He also served his country in the United States Air Force as a Staff Seargent, including service in the Vietnam war—an expression of duty that remained an important part of his life and legacy.
A beloved husband and family man, Kenneth is survived by his wife of 52 years, Cheryl Childs; his nephew and niece, Jesse (Rachel) and Kary (Colton); and two grandsons, Garrison and McKade. He was preceded in death by his parents, Mildred and John Child's, and his sister, Kay Hutchinson.
Kenneth’s life was grounded in what mattered most to him: god, his family, and his country. He found genuine contentment outdoors, working in his yard and moving the earth—simple, honest labor that reflected the steady way he lived.
He was a member of Church of Christ in Pine Mountain Valley, where he was known as a respectful member and a valued presence within the congregation.
A visitation will be held in the St. Elmo Room at Striffler Hamby, 4071 Macon Rd. Columbus GA 31907 on Tuesday September 22, 2026 at 10:00 AM, with a graveside service to follow at 11:00 AM at Parkhill Cemetery, 4161 Macon Rd. Columbus GA 31907.
In lieu of flowers the family requests that memorial contributions be made to the Tunnel To Towers Foundation in Kenneth's name.
