Larry “Wayne” Johnson, 79, was born October 19, 1946, in Thomaston, Georgia, and passed away June 16, 2026. Wayne lived in Columbus, Georgia. A visitation will be held at Striffler-Hamby Mortuary, 4071 Macon Road, Columbus, GA, on Sunday, June 21, 2026, from 2:00 pm to 4:00 pm; the Funeral Service will be held on Monday, June 22, 2026, at 2:00 pm Striffler-Hamby Mortuary, 4071 Macon Road, Columbus, GA.
Wayne was the son of Clarence and Julia Johnson. Wayne shared his life with Susan H. Johnson, they were married for 42 years, he valued the enduring strength of that bond. Wayne was a member of Northside Baptist Church, he enjoyed attending church services and Sunday School.
He worked as a machinist at Lumus Industries, and after retirement continued working at the Publix on Bradley Park Dr., bringing the same reliability and work ethic to each season of his life.
An avid sports enthusiast, Wayne loved cheering on his favorite teams—the Georgia Bulldogs, Atlanta Falcons, and Atlanta Braves. He also enjoyed playing golf, finding simple pleasure in the game and the time it offered for him.
Wayne is preceded in death by: his wife, Susan H. Johnson; his mother, Julia F. Johnson; his father, Clarence E. Johnson; his two brothers, Grover C. Johnson, Clarence Lamar Johnson; and his sister, Patricia Atkinson.
Survivors include: his son, Justin Wayne (Stacy) Johnson; his daughter, Kellie Johnson Kirven; his five grandchildren, Troy (April) Phillips, Olivia Johnson, Haley (Ian) Gunn, Blake Gunn, Dallas Kirven; and his great granddaughter, Violet Perez.
