Larry Joe Williams, 65, of Columbus passed away on August 12, 2012 at St. Francis Hospital.
Funeral services for Mr. Williams will be 11:00 am, Wednesday, August 15, 2012 in the chapel of Striffler-Hamby Mortuary 4071 Macon Road Columbus with Reverend Mike Reeves officiating. Interment will follow in Parkhill Cemetery. Visitation for Mr. Williams will be from 6-8 pm, Tuesday, August 14, 2012 at Striffler-Hamby.
Larry Joe Williams was born November 1, 1946 in Columbus, Georgia to the late Sam and Pearl Williams. In addition to his parents, Mr. Williams was preceded in death by a brother; Jacob Earl Williams, Sr. and a sister; Ruthann Williams. He served his Country in the United States Army and was a Veteran of the Vietnam Conflict. Mr. Williams was retired from Civil Service and enjoyed woodworking; leaving a collection of beautiful cabinetry and custom furniture. Mr. Williams was a member of Second Baptist Church, Columbus.
Mr. Williams served as Director of the Columbus/Ft. Benning Shrine Club and was past President in 2007. He served as a Road Runner making over 38 trips escorting children to the Shriner’s Children’s Hospitals and actively promoted the annual Columbus Shrine Circus. He was a member of Al Sihah Temple in Macon, Hillybilly Clan 89 Outhouse #3, the Phenix City and Taylor County Shrine Clubs, Rose Hill Lodge #484 and West Point Lodge #877. He dedicated a large portion of his time to helping his fellow Masons and Shriners. He loved spoiling his grandchildren and doing for others. He will be greatly missed by family, friends and all who knew him.
Survivors include his wife of 44 years, Margaret Williams, daughter; Kimberly Jo Rogers and her husband, Wesley of Columbus, one son; Larry Joe Williams, Jr., and his wife Melissa of West Point, GA., four grandsons; Austin Rogers, Hunter and Tyler Williams, and Chandler Dean, one brother, Jerry Williams and his wife Susan of Monroe, GA.
