Dr. Lawrence Howard Williams, 71, of Phenix City, Alabama, passed away peacefully in the arms of our Lord, on November 8, 2025, surrounded by loved ones. Born March 20, 1954, in Columbus, Georgia, he was the son of the late Mr. Frank H. Williams and Mrs. Mary Bell Williams.
Lawrence attended Columbus High School and continued his education at Auburn University before earning his medical degree from the Medical College of Georgia. After completing his residency in Savannah, Georgia, he returned home to Columbus to begin his career in Internal Medicine in 1981. For 41 years, Dr. Williams served his patients and community with unwavering compassion, integrity, and dedication, retiring only when illness required it in July of 2025. He was a physician at Horizons Diagnostics.
A committed lifelong learner and avid reader, he also loved Auburn University football and took great pride in supporting his Tigers. Lawrence was a faithful member of Saint Andrews Presbyterian Church, where he nurtured his spiritual life and friendships rooted in faith and fellowship. Most of all, he was devoted to his family and to the calling of medicine, touching countless lives through his kindness, humility, and steady presence.
He is survived by his wife of 41 years, Aracelis, his son, H. Taylor Williams, and sisters-in-law, Nivea Malave (Ivan Ftorek) and Lina Malave, nephew-in-law, Joseph Mongiovi (Jamie) and numerous cousins. He was preceded in death by his brother, Frank L Williams.
A visitation for family and friends will be held on Thursday, November 13, 2025 at 1:00 PM at St. Andrews Presbyterian Church, 4980 Hancock Rd, Midland, Georgia 31820; the funeral service will be held at 2:00 PM. A graveside burial service will follow at Evergreen Memorial Park, 4500 St. Marys Road, Columbus, Georgia, 31907.
