CW4 (Ret.) Leonard A. “Joe” Cox, 83, of Smiths Station, AL passed away Monday, May 9, 2016 at Gentiva Hospice. A Graveside Service will be held 10:00 am Thursday, May 12, 2016 at Riverdale Cemetery, 1000 Victory Drive Columbus, GA 31901, with Pastor Bud Rupel officiating.
Mr. Cox, son of the late Nancy J. Davis and Ray O. Cox, was born November 18, 1932 in Goldbug, KY. He served his country honorably in U.S. Army Aviation from 1948-1973, having one tour during the Korean Conflict and two tours in the Vietnam Era Conflict. Mr. Cox retired from Civil Service in 1989. He was a member of First Assembly of God in Phenix City, Al and a Mason at Huachuca Lodge #53 in Huachuca, AZ. He loved boating, fishing, farming and spending time with his grandchildren.
Other than his parents, Mr. Cox is preceded in death by his wife of 61 years, Launa Y. “Betty” Cox; two sisters; one brother and one grandchild. He is survived by his two sons, David Cox (Becky) of Unadilla, GA and Dan Cox (Janice) of Orlando, FL; daughter Catherine Cox of Columbus, GA; grandchildren Matthew Cox, Ben Cox (Missy), Cate Cox and Allison Cox; and great grandchild Cameron “Cami” Cox.
