Lewis Swanton Thomason Jr., age 81, of Phenix City, Alabama passed away on Wednesday, March 2, 2022. A visitation for family and friends of Lewis will be held Saturday, March 5, 2022 from 12:30 PM to 1:45 PM at Striffler-Hamby Mortuary, 4071 Macon Rd, Columbus, Georgia 31907. Following the visitation a graveside celebration of Lewis' life will be held at 2:00 PM at Parkhill Cemetery, 4161 Macon Road, Columbus, Georgia 31907.
Lewis was born May 23, 1940 in Columbus, Georgia; the son of Addie I. Goare Thomason and Lewis S. Thomason, Sr. Lewis graduated from Columbus High School in 1958 and joined the U.S. Navy where he served as a Corpsman until he was medically retired. Lewis married the love of his life Glenda Wooten at Beallwood Baptist Church. They made Phenix City their home and he was a member of Lakewood Baptist Church for many years. After his retirement from the Navy he became an over the road trucker, driving for 25 years throughout the lower 48 states. He then became a Rural Mail Carrier for U.S.P.S. in Waverly Hall. Lewis enjoyed conversation, making friends and visiting everywhere he went. He also enjoyed being in the outdoors, hunting and traveling were two of his favorite activities. Lewis had passion for model railroads and enjoyed being part of a local model railroad club. Lewis loved his family and spending time with them, was always time well spent. He cherished the role of Husband, Father, and Grandfather.
Lewis was preceded in death by his beloved wife Glenda Wooten Thomason; his father Lewis S. Thomason, Jr. and his mother Addie I. Goare Thomason; his brother Jimmy Thomason.
Lewis is survived by his daughter Kandi Plinske (Larry); his sister Marsha Blocker; his grandchildren, Cameron Herring, Cody Plinske, Michaela Plinske; and several nieces and nephews.
