Linda Sisco Purks, 74, of Statham, GA passed away peacefully in her home on August 16, 2018. She was surrounded by her family. Funeral services will be held 2 pm Monday, August 20, 2018 at Striffler-Hamby Mortuary, Macon Road Chapel, with Father Frank Patterson officiating. Interment will follow at Parkhill Cemetery. The family will receive friends before the service beginning at 1 pm.
Linda was born June 19, 1944 in Louisville, Kentucky, the daughter of J.W. and Mary Sisco. She is a graduate of Swainsboro High School in 1962. She graduated from Mercer University in 1966 where she was a member of the Alpha Delta Pi Sorority and the Mercer College Choir. She served as treasurer of Cardinal Key National Honor Society. She was named to the Who’s Who Among Students in American Universities and Colleges.
She was a high school teacher at Columbus High School before her marriage to John Purks. She was a member of Embry Hills United Methodist Church where she was actively involved with the worship committee, the children’s education program and served as the wedding coordinator. Linda loved music and after college she enjoyed playing the organ at Asbury United Methodist Church. She also enjoyed watching Georgia football, doing crafts, clogging and entertaining family and friends.
She is preceded in death by her parents J.W. and Mary Sisco; Warren and Ellen Purks, Sr; and Warren and Helen Purks, Jr. Survivors include her husband of 48 years, John Purks; daughter, Christie Purks; sister Betty Fillingim; nieces Sue Ford (Harold), Kate Purks Sandahl (Trent), Meg Purks Godfrey (Jon) and nephews Lee Fillingim (LaGina) and Bob Purks and great nieces and nephews: Anna Ford, Daniel Ford, Kristin Fillingim, Henson Fillingim, Jackson Fillingim; Carter Sandahl, Ben Sandahl, Helen Godfrey and Lizzie Godfrey.
The family has asked that donations be made to the Burn Foundation of America in Augusta Georgia.
