Louis L. (Joe) Platus March 4, 1941 - May 6, 2015 Columbus, GA- Louis L. (Joe) Platus, 74, of Columbus, GA, passed away, May 6, 2015 at Emory University Hospital in Atlanta, GA. Mr. Platus was born March 4, 1941 at Fort Benning, GA, to his late parents Louis and Lowry Hogan Platus. He grew up in Pine Mountain Valley, GA, and was a 1959 graduate of Harris County High School. Mr. Platus was employed 33 years with Norfolk Southern Rail Road as a Conductor. He was a member of United Transportation Union, Local 941, and served as Local Chairman for many years. His passion was his family, to which he was a devoted Husband, Father, Grandfather, and Great Grandfather. The family will receive guests Friday, May 8, 2015 6:00-8:00 p.m. in the St. Elmo Room of Striffler-Hamby, 4071 Macon Rd. Columbus, GA. The Funeral Service will be Saturday, May 9, 2015 at 2:00 pm in Edgewood Hall of Striffler-Hamby followed by interment at Parkhill Cemetery, with Pastor Mitch McGinnis Officiating. Along with his parents, Mr. Platus is preceded in death by his sister, Elizabeth Platus. He is survived by his loving wife of 55 years, Betty A O'Neal Platus; two daughters, Becky Hill and Kelly Williams with son in-law Ed; son, Joey Platus with daughter in-law Tracy, all of Columbus, GA; seven grandchildren, Jamie Williams, Jacy Williams, Emily Hill, Cole Hill, Colton Platus, Madilyn Platus, all of Columbus, GA, and Lindsey (Chris) Green of Crestview, FL; two great grandchildren, Cannon Williams and Gatlin Green; and many friends and other family members.
