Mrs. Battles was born February 27, 1923 in Geneva County, AL, the daughter of Whit and Lula Scarborough. She was an elementary school teacher before her marriage to Gerald Battles and a homemaker after. Gerald and Lounell founded their lives on God’s principles, teaching their children to love the Lord and put Him first. She was a member of Piney Grove Baptist Church. Lounell was a wonderful wife and mother, keeping her sanity through all of the shenanigans and adventures of raising five children. She was a grandmother who loved keeping her grandkids and spoiled them with simple things like too much cheese in their grits and too much sugar in their tea.
She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, brothers Funston and George, sister Pauline, sister-in-law Boots, two sons Mark Battles and Roger Battles, and son-in-law, Harold Hall. Survivors include her children: Jo Ann Hall, Bobby Battles (Sheila) & Carol (Tommy); grandchildren: Kristy, Heather (James), Jeffrey (Jamie), Tina (Michael), Chas (Casey), Rachel (Shawn), Alissa, Gerad, Candy (David), Neil, Stephanie (Jacob), Julie (Rodney) & Jillian; 18 great grandchildren; 2 great-great grandchildren, numerous other family members, and her amazing caregiver Pat Brooks.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks you to donate to the charity of your choice. Arrangements are being entrusted to Striffler-Hamby Mortuary, 4071 Macon Rd., Columbus, GA 31907.
