

Funeral services for Mrs. Carden will be held at 2:00 pm, on Sunday, February 8, 2015 in Edgewood Hall of Striffler-Hamby 4071 Macon Road Columbus, GA.
Interment will be on Monday, February 9, 2015 at 11:00 am, in Evergreen Memorial Park.
Visitation for Mrs. Carden will be from 6-8 pm, on Saturday, February 7, 2015 at the funeral home.
Lula Mae Carden was born on February 3, 1917 in Hartford, Alabama to the late John Shelley Payne and Pearl Payne. In addition to her parents Mrs. Carden was preceded in death by her husband, Rutherford “Shorty” Carden, three brothers: Rudolph Payne, Lewie Frank Payne and Houston Payne, and two sisters: Marie Powell and Lucy Hall. Mrs. Carden was retired from Swift Textiles, she was a Baptist by faith, and was an avid gardener.
Survivors include three children: Charles E. (Judy)Balkcom of Sumner, GA, Martha (James) Dudley of Cataula, GA, and Linda Carden (Keith Burns) Williams of Phenix City, AL, one brother: James G. Payne of Dothan, AL, one sister: Gladys (Chuck) Horchen of Newton, AL, sisters-in-laws: Shirley Payne and Mavis Payne both of Columbus, GA, six grandchildren: Charles E. (Angie)Balkcom, Jr., Tina (Todd) Sizemore, Sherry (Rodney) Huffstetler, Anthony Daniel (Gina) Balkcom all of Sylvester, GA, Kimberly Renee Roberts of Phenix City, AL, and Andrew Dennis Williams of Albemarle, NC, ten great-grandchildren and ten great-great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
Honorary pallbearers will be, Drew Williams, Chuck Balkcom, Danny Balkcom, John Horchen, Gregory Payne, Michael Hero and Brett Hero.
