
Columbus, Georgia- Mable Powers Harrell, age 92, resident of Columbus, died on November 29, 2014 at Delmar Gardens Nursing Home. A graveside service will be held on Thursday, December 4, 2014 at 3:00pm in Chapel of the Pines at Parkhill Cemetery. The family will receive
friends from 2:00-2:45pm on Thursday, December 4, 2014 at Striffler-Hamby, Columbus. Mrs. Harrell, daughter of the late Robert Hall Powers
and Mary Ileen Pearce Powers, was born February 18, 1922 in Aliceville, Alabama. She grew up in rural Alabama during The Great Depression and came to Columbus in 1940 where she met Alto Harrell. Shortly after marriage, her husband was drafted into the military and served in Europe during WWII for 166th Engineer Battalion. After the war, Mrs. Harrell and her husband continued to live in Columbus where she worked
for Kirvens Department Store for many years while Mr. Harrell worked at Fort Benning Department of the Army. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Alto Vester Harrell Sr.; and sister, Mary Ann Powers. Mrs. Harrell is survived by her sister, Jeanett P. Hall of Hamilton, GA.; son, Alto V. Harrell Jr. (Diane) of Decatur, GA.; two grandsons, Mark Jeffrey Harrell of Dunwoody, GA., Gregory Patrick Harrell of Decatur, GA.; and five great grandchildren. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Alzheimer’s Association at www.alz.org.
