Margaret Sue Overby

Margaret, affectionately known as Sue by everyone, was born on May 10, 1932 to the late Walter and Ida Holmes in Columbus, Georgia.

Sue married her husband, Ben Overby and had a beautiful family that consisted of three sons—Charley, Jimmy, and David Overby. As a hard-working woman, Sue often had two jobs. She retired from the Georgia Health Department and volunteered at Oak & Pine Manor and St. Francis Hospital. She was an independent person, and enjoyed gardening and painting ceramics in her free time.

She is preceded in death by parents Walter and Ida Holmes, her loving husband, Ben Overby, as well as her two sons, Jimmy and David Overby.

Sue is survived by her son, Charley Overby, her grandchildren—Andrew Overby (Krista), Beth Crumley (Ryan), Tammy McGrotha, and Ben Overby, her great-grandchildren Kadie and Kali Overby and Rachel and Elijah Crumley, along with special friends Lidia and Mike Grady.

A celebration of life service for Sue will be held on Wednesday, July 2, 2025 at 10:00 AM at Striffler-Hamby Mortuary, St. Elmo Room, 4071 Macon Rd., Columbus, Georgia, 31907.
