Margaret was born on October 16, 1932, in Barnet, England, to Francesco Humberto Visconti and Helen Edith Rose Hare, both of whom predeceased her. She was also preceded in death by her sister, Eileen, who passed away in 2004.
While living in England, Margaret met Karl Georg Zech, who was serving in the United States Air Force. The couple married and spent many years together as she accompanied him to various duty stations throughout his military career. Margaret devoted herself to being a homemaker and supporting her family, often assisting in activities connected to her husband’s interests and occasionally helping with church-related efforts alongside him. Following Karl’s retirement from the Air Force in 1979, they made their home in Shalimar, Florida, where they owned and operated The Paint Center, an automotive paint store, and became part of the local community. After Karl’s passing in 2013, Margaret moved to Columbus, Georgia, to be closer to family.
Margaret will be remembered for her devotion to her family, her quiet strength, and the care she gave to those around her throughout her life. From her childhood in England to her years as a military wife, business owner, mother, and friend, she touched the lives of many with her kindness and steadfast support. She is survived by her son, Michael Zech and his wife Ruth; her grandson, Alex Zech; and her very special friend, Grace Trinder of Barnet, England.

A memorial service will be held on Thursday, August 6, 2026 at 11:00 AM at Striffler-Hamby Mortuary, 4071 Macon Road, Columbus, GA 31907. Services will be livestreamed, please join through our website www.shcolumbus.com or on Facebook at Striffler-Hamby Mortuary at Parkhill Cemetery. Margaret and her husband, Karl, will be interred together at Barrancas National Cemetery in Pensacola, Florida.
