

Marguerite was born May 3rd,1936, in LaGrange Georgia, the daughter of George McConnell and Ruth Rebecca (Hart) McConnell.
Marguerite graduated from Waverley Hall High School and later graduated from Perry Business School in LaGrange, GA.
Marguerite married Duane Johnson on April 13th, 1966, at Waverley Hall, GA, with Earl A.Thames Jr. officiating. They lived a life of love and devotion to one another during their marriage of almost sixty years.
Marguerite worked for the Columbus Health Department as a bookkeeper and later a teacher’s aide with the Muscogee County School District.
Marguerite loved her family, neighbors, and church. Her favorite hobbies were cooking and gardening. She also loved attracting and watching hundreds of hummingbirds at their country homestead.
Marguerite was a long-time member of Edgewood Baptist Church. Over the years, she participated in the Widows Ministry and the Benevolence Ministry.
Marguerite was a dedicated mother, grandmother, and wife. She loved dogs and children, and was more generous than Santa Claus. She was a devoted Christian and loved God above all else.
Remaining to cherish Marguerite’s memory are her son, S. Scott Johnson; daughter-in-law, Laura S. Johnson; grandchildren, Caleb Johnson and Stephanie Smith (Jason); sister, Carol Purvis; brother-in-law, Ron Purvis; nieces, Angela Mueller (John), and Lynn Sylvis (Michael), Annette Bruce, and nephew, Bruce McConnell.
Preceding Marguerite in death are her spouse, Duane Arnold Johnson; son, Stanley Arnold Johnson; parents, George McConnell and Ruth McConnell; sister, Mildred Aenchbacher (Charles); sister-in-law, Delores Cloar; brother, Robert McConnell; nephews, Harold McConnell and Greg Purvis; niece, Roxy Gaedert.
Visitation will be held January 9th, 2026, at 2:00 PM at Edgewood Baptist Church. Funeral service will be held January 9th, 2026, at 3:00 PM at Edgewood Baptist Church in Columbus Georgia with Jonathan Merritt officiating. Interment will be in Parkhill Cemtery
