

A graveside service will be held at Fort Mitchell National Cemetery on Monday, September 14, 2026 at 11:00 AM.
Mrs. Young was born on May 24, 1933, in Opelika, AL, daughter of the late Marion Herbert Thompson and Thelma Moore Thompson. She graduated from Jordan High School in Columbus, GA, and received her bachelor’s degree from Columbus College. After raising her family, she served as Harris County Manager, retiring in 1996. Mrs. Young was very active at St. Luke Methodist Church, a member of the Discovery Sunday School Class, a member of the Chancel Choir, and a volunteer in the Meals on Wheels program. Other volunteer activities included The Salvation Army Women’s Auxiliary, the Springer Opera House, and Callaway Gardens.
Mrs. Young was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She was preceded in death by her husband, Frederick W. Young, Jr., and her much beloved daughter-in-law, Anita Davis Young (Bill). Survivors include Carol Irene Young of Yellow Springs, OH (Parker), Frederick (Bill) William Young III of Newnan, GA (Anita), Mark Stephen Young of Hamilton, GA, and Laura Elizabeth Young of Fortson, GA; four grandchildren, Adam Luchessi of Troy, NY, Aaron Buckley, William Boyce Young of Newnan, GA (Kayla), and Marian Davis Pritchett of Columbus, GA (Trey); and one great-grandchild, Harrison Pritchett, IV, of Columbus, GA.
To all whose lives she blessed, she will always be remembered for her sweetness, her kindness, her devotion to her family, and her complete and utter selflessness.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the St. Luke United Methodist Church Doyle and Nancy Register Music Scholarship Fund, or to the local Salvation Army.
