Marilyn was born and raised in Jacksonville, Florida to the Late Abraham and Eva Setzer. She graduated from Robert E. Lee High School in 1955 and in June of 1959, graduated with a Bachelors of Arts in Education from University of Florida. She then went on to obtaining her Master’s Degree and graduated from Columbus State University. Marilyn was a lifelong educator, student, and voracious reader where she taught in the Muscogee County School District for over twenty years.
She was involved in many organizations and clubs such as Shearith Israel Synagogue, Temple Israel, Sisterhood, Hadassah, Century Club, and Teacher’s Association of Georgia. Marilyn enjoyed playing tennis, traveling (including China and Israel), and working crossword puzzles, as well as attending Columbus Symphony events and taking her grandchildren to the Columbus Museum.
Marilyn is survived by her two sons; Alec A. Hirsch (Adrian) of Baton Rouge, Louisiana and Brian C. Hirsch of Columbus, Georgia, and two granddaughters; Allison L. Hirsch of Ashville, North Carolina and Lauren A. Hirsch of New Orleans, Louisiana. She is preceded in death by her husband; Stanley Hirsch.
A Graveside Service will be on Sunday, March 17, 2024 at 1:00 PM at Riverdale Cemetery, 1000 Victory Drive, Columbus, Georgia 31901, according to Striffler-Hamby Mortuary, Columbus, Georgia.
Mrs. Marilyn’s family would like to extend a heartwarming Thank you to the staff of Ridgecrest Rehabilitation and Skilled Nursing Facility for the loving care they provided.
