Marjorine L. Slocumb

Mary Marjorine (Marge) Slocumb-Johnson passed away February 2, 2015 of natural causes. She was 90 years old. She was born September 9, 1924 in Walker Springs, AL. She was a long time resident of Columbus, GA, but over the past several years resided with family in both FL and TN.

Marge was a member of Evangel Temple, Columbus, GA where she taught Sunday school and was active in the Women’s Ministries and mission programs. Under her leadership, the Women’s Ministries purchased a much needed elevator for the church, a baby grand piano for Shaver’s Hall, and china, crystal, and linen for the church dining hall. Known for her southern hospitality and generosity, Marge always enjoyed cooking for church functions, family and friends. She was also a member of the Arthur Murray School of Dance and the Columbus Civitan Club. She retired from Sunshine Biscuit Company.

She was preceded in death by her parents, William Thomas Lee and Elizabeth Bradford Lee; husband G.T. Slocumb and Rev. J. Foy Johnson; one sister, Aline Johnson; and two brothers, Frank Lee and Cecil Lee.

She is survived by her three children, Marcus Winton Johnson (June) Seminole, AL; Korin Dobbs (Larry) Lakeland, FL; and Janet Waycaster (Ken), Soddy-Daisy, TN; 8 stepchildren; James Johnson, Jr. (Linda), T.L. Johnson, Rev. Joel Johnson (Martha), Michael Johnson (YiMin), Howard Johnson (Carolyn), Johnny Johnson (Barbara), Sam Johnson (Michelle), all of Lakeland, FL and Elizabeth Hale (Paul), Macclenny, FL; 9 grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren, 20 step grandchildren and 23 great step grandchildren.

The family will receive friends February 6, 2015 from 9:30 AM to 11 AM at Striffler Hamby Mortuary, Edgewood Hall, Columbus, GA. Funeral service will immediately follow the visitation at 11 AM with Rev. Paul Thomas, Rev. Watson McKemie and Rev. David Lee officiating. A private graveside service will follow.
