

Marlin R. McCaghren, age 88, resident of Columbus, died on Monday, January 31, 2011 at his residence. Cryptside services will be held at the Chapel of the Pines Mausoleum, Parkhill Cemetery, 4161 Macon Road, Columbus on Thursday, February 3, 2011, 11 a.m. with Reverend Steve King officiating, according to Striffler-Hamby Mortuary, 4071 Macon Road, Columbus. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Wednesday, February 2, 2011 from 4:30 p.m. till 6:30 p.m. Mr. MaCaghren, son of the late Robert Alfred McCaghren and Della May Pate McCaghren, was born September 6, 1922 in LaFayette, GA. He was a graduate of Jordan High School and played on their first football team in 1939 where he was known as “Bones McCaghren.” After high school, he entered the military serving in the U.S. Army during World War II to include the Battle of Leyte. After serving his country honorably in the military, he returned to Columbus and worked for Smith Raymond Inc., and after years of service there he began PHC Mechanical where he was co-owner for several years. Mr. McCaghren was an avid sports fan also supported Little League Baseball. He was preceded in death by his wife of 56 years, Mary Worthington McCaghren. Mr. McCaghren is survived by two sons, Gary McCaghren, Sr of Columbus and Don McCaghren and his wife Laura of Hamilton, GA; three grandchildren, Tara Streck of Chattanooga, TN, Gary McCaghren, Jr and his wife Angel of Roswell, GA, and Caitlin McCaghren of Pensacola, FL; three great-grandchildren, Robbie McCaghren, Ronnie McCaghren, and Riley McCaghren; other relatives and friends.
