Columbus , GA- Martha Jeanette Shields, 88, of Columbus passed away on Wednesday, May 14, 2014 at Columbus Hospice House surrounded by her loving family.

Graveside services for Mrs. Shields will be held at 2:00 pm, on Monday, May 19, 2014 at Main Post Cemetery, Ft. Benning, GA, with Reverend Tim Jones and Reverend Sean Heggood officiating, according to Striffler-Hamby 4071 Macon Road Columbus.

Visitation for Mrs. Shields will be from 6-8 pm, on Sunday, May 18, 2014 at the funeral home.

Mrs. Shields was born May 17, 1925 to the late Archie Doyle LeMasters and Grace Viola LeMasters. In addition to her parents Mrs. Shields was preceded in death by her husband, James Donald Shields. She was retired from Muscogee County Elementary School after 22 years of service as a cook, and was a member of Britt David Baptist Church. She was an avid bowler, and had a heart for children teaching Vacation Bible School since 1960.

Survivors include her son, Jim Shields and his wife Tracy, a daughter, Doreen Hall and her husband Wade, four grandchildren, Johnathan Hall and his wife Glenda, Chris Hall and his wife Charlotte, Joanna Stanislawski and her husband Edwin, and Andrew Shields, four great-grandchildren, Teresa Ragan and her husband Aaron, Sean Hall, Harrison Stanislawski, and Natalie Stanislawski, and one great-great granddaughter, Janette Cariel.

Flowers will be accepted or memorial contributions may be made to Columbus Hospice, or to the team "Iron Sharpens Iron" in memory of Martha Jeanette Shields.
