Ruth, as she was known by all of her family and friends, had a long and a wonderful life!
She was preceded in death by her father, Oscar Wilson Harris, her mother, Emma Missouri Trant Harris, two brothers, James William Harris, Otis (Pee Wee) Wilson Harris, her husband, Joe Darrell Jones, Sr, her daughter, Deborah Kay Jones Brooks, a grandson, Tony Lee Brooks and a son-in-law, William A. (Buddy) Harp. She leaves behind a sister, Onnie Whitaker, a son, Joe Darrell Jones, Jr. (Barbara Jones), a daughter, Ruthie Renee Harp and countless grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren.
She was brought up in a Christian home and met her Lord at a very young age and served Him her whole life with love and compassion to anyone she knew or met. She loved her family very much.
She was a housewife and helped raise three children with the help of her military (Army) husband of forty-eight years, Joe Darrell Jones, Sr. She worked briefly, alongside her husband at Jordan City Pharmacy until they both retired.
Ruth has always been a long-time Braves Baseball fan wearing her cap and jersey, while watching them play on TV. However, she became the 100,000th fan at the Columbus Astros game in the 1970’s, where she walked onto the field with the announcer and was awarded gift certificates from local businesses, received a plaque and had her picture and article of her win in the Ledger-Enquirer Newspaper. She was famous!
She wants everyone to remember her as the person she was, before her health declined.
Funeral services are scheduled for Wednesday, June 3, 2026 at 2:00 pm in the Fisher Chapel of Striffler-Hamby Mortuary, Columbus, GA. Interment to follow in Parkhill Cemetery. A visitation for family and friends will be 1 hour prior to the service.
