Mary H. Speed of Columbus, Georgia, died Saturday, June 2, 2018. Graveside services will be held Wednesday, June 6th at 11:00 am in Westover Cemetery near the reception house in Augusta, Georgia. The Reverend Stuart Ritter from Covenant Presbyterian Church will be presiding according to Striffler-Hamby Mortuary, Columbus, Georgia. The family will receive friends after the ceremony in the parlor at Westover Cemetery.
Mrs. Speed was born in October of 1924 in Augusta, Georgia, the daughter of Judge John C. Harper and Mary D'Atignac Walker Harper. She married Andrew B. Speed in February 1946 in Augusta where they lived until 1961 when they moved to Columbus, Georgia.
Mrs. Speed was a member of the Junior League, the Presbyterian Church, the National Society of the Colonial Dames of America in the state of Georgia, Phalo Study Club, Magnolia Garden Club, and Investments Unlimited and formerly served as a docent at the Columbus Museum and was a member of the Boards of Friends of Foster Care, Listening Eyes School, and St. Francis Hospital Auxiliary.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Andrew B. Speed, and brother, James W. Harper.
Survivors include her daughter, Sally Speed of Athens, Georgia; her son, Andrew B. Speed, Jr. and his wife, Rita, and granddaughter Andrea Speed of Roswell, Georgia.
