Mary Evelyn White

Mary Evelyn White, age 78, resident of Midland, Georgia, died on Wednesday, December 4, 2013, 12:06 p.m. at Gentiva Hospice, Columbus. Funeral services will be held at First Seventh-Day Adventist Church, 7880 Schomburg Road, Columbus on Monday, December 9, 2013, 1 p.m., according to Striffler-Hamby Mortuary, 4071 Macon Road, Columbus. Interment will follow at Parkhill Cemetery, 4161 Macon Road, Columbus. Pallbearers are Mark McCullum, Gary Proctor, William Harrison, David Harrison, Kenny Wayne Harrison, and Dennis Harrison. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Sunday, December 8, 2013 from 3-5 p.m.

Mrs. White, daughter of the late Lunie Ray Marshall and Rhoda Inez Sketo Marshall, was born January 10, 1935 in Midland City, Alabama. She was a homemaker and a member of Columbus First Seventh-Day Adventist Church. Mrs. White was a member of the Nurses Registry serving as a private duty nurse for 30 years, retiring in 1994.

She was preceded in death by a daughter, Cynthia Lynn White Harrison; and two brothers, Donald Ray and William Franklin. Mrs. White is survived by her husband of 54 years, James Richard White, Sr.; three sons, James Richard Jr. (Julie), Gary Jerome (Sharon), and Terry Mark (Debbie); two brothers, Ronald Day and Charlie; five sisters, Betty, Nina, Barbara, Joyce, and Judy; son-in-law, William Harrison; ten grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews; other relatives and friends.
