Milton was born September 5, 1929 to Ira and Mittie Mae Woodruff in Greenville, GA. He graduated from Greenville High School in 1948 where he was a basketball and track star and thereafter moved to Columbus, GA. He served for 8 years in the National Guard. Milton married Elizabeth “Betty” Moon Woodruff of Columbus in 1952.
Milton was a life-long member of Wynnton United Methodist Church, where he frequently served as Usher. Milton loved sports, and coached softball and basketball in Columbus throughout his life. He was a proud supporter of the Hardaway Hawks, where his four beloved children attended high school.
He is survived by his loving wife, Betty Moon Woodruff. Surviving relatives include his four children, Beth Kelley (Reggie) of Columbus, GA, Teri Parker (Dan) of Columbus, GA, Biff Woodruff (Ellen) of Atlanta, GA, and Paige Johnson (Keith) of Kennesaw, GA, and 12 grandchildren: Kaci Holland (Will), Lindsey Whitten (Baker), Daniel Parker (Anne), Ty Kelley, Carolyn Woodruff, Lilly Woodruff, Keith Johnson, Jr., Margaret Woodruff, Sarah Beth Johnson, Mary Grace Johnson, Lolly Johnson, and Claudia Johnson, and 10 great-grandchildren.
Milton is also survived by three of his six siblings, Ray Woodruff of Clearwater, FL, Barbara Jane Greene of Bainbridge, GA and Frederick Woodruff of Jefferson, GA and too many nieces and nephews to count.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his sisters, Dot Bruner and Josephine Bush, and his brother Eugene Woodruff.
Milton leaves behind many close friends developed through the years. He owned and operated East Wynnton Service Station on Wynnton Road, where he generously gave free services and free gasoline to those in need. He retired from The Jordan Company in 2013. In recent years, Milton could be found with a table full of friends or family at Country’s BBQ or The Yogurt Shoppe. Milton was blessed with the ability to put a smile on the faces of anyone he came in contact, especially children. In his life, he was a living reminder of the C.S. Lewis quote "joy is the serious business of heaven."
