Murray Mack Carroll, born February 25, 1929, in Columbus, Georgia, to Dallas and Nettie Mae Vinson Carroll, passed peacefully into the presence of his Lord and Savior surrounded by the love of his family on June 7, 2026.
Mack lived a life defined by faith, family, service, and music. A proud veteran of the United States Air Force, he faithfully served his country before beginning a career in civil service at Fort Benning, Georgia, where he worked until his retirement.
Above all else, Mack was a devoted Christian who loved Jesus and never missed an opportunity to share His love with others. Alongside his beloved wife, Estelle, he was a faithful member of Trinity Temple Assembly of God in Columbus, Georgia, for many years. Together they built a life centered on faith, family, and serving others. They especially enjoyed traveling with their senior adult Sunday School group, and Mack often volunteered as the bus driver, making sure everyone arrived safely and had a wonderful time along the way.
Music was one of Mack's greatest joys. Though he never received formal lessons, he taught himself to play the piano, guitar, and his favorite instrument, the harmonica. If you visited his home, chances are you would not leave without hearing a song—or being invited to sing along. He shared his musical gifts through a bluegrass gospel band, bringing encouragement and joy to residents of nursing homes, missions, and churches throughout the years.
Mack was a devoted husband to his beloved wife, Estelle Carroll. Their marriage of 70 years was a beautiful testimony of enduring love, faithfulness, and commitment until her passing in December 2020. Together they created a strong foundation for their family and left a lasting legacy built on faith, love, and devotion.
He was also a loving father, grandfather, great-grandfather, uncle, and friend. Mack deeply loved his family and never missed an opportunity to show up, lend a hand, offer encouragement, or help someone in need. His quiet acts of service and unwavering presence touched countless lives.
Mack was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Estelle Carroll; his daughter, Marie Carroll Sobasky; his daughter-in-law, Lena Carroll; his brothers, Louie, Jack, Jimmy, Sammy, Ralph, and William Carroll; and his sisters, Lizzie Mae, Joan, and Sally Carroll.
He is survived by his son, Michael G. Carroll of Palmer, Alaska; his daughter, Melissa Chadwick (Steve) of Waverly Hall, Georgia; and his son-in-law, Barry Lee Sobasky Sr. He also leaves behind his cherished grandchildren: Michael Brian Carroll (Evelyn), Jerry Jordan (Abigail), Shawna Cheves (Will), Tony Monk (Britton), Michael David Sobasky, Michael Robert Carroll (Amber), Barry Lee Sobasky Jr. (Heather), Natasha Carroll Kinsland (Jessie), and Jamie Carroll Burton (Joe).
In addition, he is survived by numerous great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, extended family members, and dear friends who will continue to cherish his memory and carry forward the values he lived each day.
While his family grieves his absence, they rejoice in the assurance that Mack is reunited with Estelle and all those who have gone before him in faith. His life was a testament to the words of Jesus found in Matthew 25:21: "Well done, good and faithful servant." His legacy of faith, music, service, love, and devotion will continue to inspire all who were blessed to know him.
A graveside service will be held on Friday, June 12, 2026 at 11:00 AM in Parkhill Cemetery, 4161 Macon Road, Columbus, GA 31907 with Rev. Mike McBride officiating.
