Mylot Gene Pitts, 94 of Waverly Hall, Georgia passed away on May 1, 2025. Born on April 22, 1931, in Sylacauga, Alabama, to the late Charlie L. Pitts and Mary Moncus Pitts. He lived a long and full life marked by dedication, service, and passion.
As a Marine, Mr. Pitts served as a Private First Class and remained deeply devoted to the values instilled during his time in uniform. He worked as a truck driver for over 20 years. After trucking, he went on to work as the Head of Security at Callaway Gardens, which is where he retired from. During his time at Callaway Gardens, he also pursued his interest in aviation by learning to fly small aircraft.
Gene was a member of the Baptist faith and carried its principles throughout his life.
Gene was a man of many interests. He loved being outside in the yard gardening, and was committed to maintaining a beautiful yard for which he won “Yard of the Year” in Waverly Hall, Georgia six years in a row- 1998-2003. Along with upkeeping his yard and gardens, Gene loved the Atlanta Braves. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and devout Marine. He had a beloved dog, Poopsie, with who he was so bonded they actually passed away on the same day.
Other than his parents, Gene is preceded in death by his wife Deloris D. Pitts, his sister, Jerrine Pitts, brothers, Tommy Pitts and Billy Pitts, sister-in-law, Sarah Pitts, and son-in-law, David Garabedian. He is survived by his son, Roy G. Pitts (Karen), daughter, Paula Garabedian, his grandchildren, Leigh Ann O’Neal (Shane), Allison Motgomery (Scott), his great grandchildren, Alexis Hagler (Jake) and Liam Corrnett, his great great grandchildren, Rimmer and Jasper Hagler, and nephew Derek Pitts (Kathy), along with several other nieces, nephews and god-children.
A visitation for family and friends will be on Monday May 5, 2025, from 2:00 PM to 3:00 PM, followed by a funeral service at 3:00 PM at Striffler-Hamby Mortuary, Fisher Chapel, 4071 Macon Rd. Columbus, Georgia, 31907. Gene will be laid to rest at Parkhill Cemetery following the service.
