Mrs. Davis was born August 15, 1932, in Sunsweet, Georgia, daughter of the late William Joseph and Pearl Brown Godard. She graduated from Albany State University in 1953 with her Bachelor’s of Science degree in Education, and earned her Master’s degree in Elementary Education from Georgia State University in 1974. Mrs. Davis was a respected educator and taught elementary school in Muscogee County for 41 years. She taught at Claflin School, Beallwood Elementary, St. Elmo Elementary, and South Columbus Elementary. Mrs. Davis also taught for the Department of Defense Dependent Schools in Italy, Germany, and Japan while supporting her husband in the military.
Mrs. Davis loved her family. She loved spending time and creating cherished memories. Mrs. Davis also loved gardening and was known for her large gardens that produced many favorite fruits and vegetables for the family, church, and community. She was a member of the Order of The Eastern Star. Mrs. Davis was a faithful member of Liberty Hill Baptist Church where she served as a Deaconess, Sunday School teacher, Director of Vacation Bible School, Youth Director, Bible Training School Co-Director to her husband, and many more roles.
We will miss her presence daily, but her memory will live forever in our hearts.
Mrs. Davis was preceded in death by her parents William and Pearl Godard, a grandchild Charles “CJ” Robinson, and 11 siblings (Willie Mae Carithers, Essie Carithers, Rosie Wilson, Mary Frances Sears, Rudy Daniels, John Henry Godard, Georgia Ann Alexander, Walter Scott Godard, George Godard, Rudine Waters, and Dorothy Ragland).
Mrs. Davis leaves behind her loving husband of 71 years, Wallace Davis; her children, Charles Davis of Miami, FL and Dr. Monique Williams (Michael) of Midland, GA; her grandchildren, Takia Davis-Jackson of Atlanta, GA, William Maben III (Makayla) of Charleston, SC, Kevin Wallace Maben of Atlanta, GA, Michael Williams II, Chyna Williams, and Justin Spann all of Columbus, GA; great grandchildren, Malachai, Mikale, Mason, Davon, Carmelo, Cash and Chandler; great-great grandchild, Messiah; her sister, Annie Smith of California, and a host of nieces, nephews. and friends
A viewing will be held at Striffler-Hamby Mortuary, Fisher Chapel, 4071 Macon Road, Columbus, GA 31907, US, on September 30, 2026, beginning at 12:00 pm.
A Funeral Service will take place at Striffler-Hamby Mortuary, Fisher Chapel, 4071 Macon Road, Columbus, GA 31907, US, on September 30, 2026, beginning at 1:00 pm.
Burial to follow after Chapel service will be at Parkhill Cemetery, 4161 Macon Rd, Columbus, Georgia 31907, on September 30, 2026.
