Though her time was brief, Nellie’s life carried a depth that cannot be measured in days. She was, in every sense, a fighter—a warrior whose will to thrive was evident from the beginning. With red auburn hair touched by light highlights, she was small in body yet unmistakably strong in spirit; truly, “her soul was bigger than her little body was strong.”
The family extends heartfelt gratitude to the Piedmont NICU, whose care was extraordinary—offering comfort, steadfast advocacy, and devoted attention throughout Nellie’s days.
Nellie is survived by her parents, Katie and Luke Butterfield; her grandparents “Nonee” Kimberlee Metcalfe, “Papa” Keith Metcalfe, “Lolli” Lorie Butterfield, and “Pop” Tim Butterfield; and her brothers, Rory and Liam Butterfield.
