Nina Ione Cannon Carman, age 73, of Columbus Georgia, passed away on July 17, 2021. A visitation will be held on Thursday, July 22, 2021 from 5 PM until 7 PM at Striffler-Hamby Mortuary, Columbus; A Graveside Service to celebrate her life will be held on Friday, July 23, 2021 at 3 PM at Parkhill Cemetery.
Nina was born on November 25, 1947 in Columbus Georgia: the daughter of Dillard Willard Cannon and Irene Smith Cannon. She grew up in Columbus and she attended Jordan vocational High School. She attended and graduated from Columbus Tech and then graduated from Columbus State University with a degree in computer programming.
Nina married Russell Dennis Carman on July 24, 1965. She met him through the U.S.O. She was a hairdresser for 30 years here in Columbus and attended college during those years. She graduated from both Columbus Technical College and then Columbus State University with degrees in Computer Programming. She was employed at T.S.Y.S. as a customer service supervisor until she retired after 28 years of service. Nina was a card carrying member of the U.S.O. all the days of her life and she was an avid supporter of Boys Town.
Nina was very creative and artsy. She enjoyed ceramics, pottery, bead crafts. She wrote poetry and worship songs. She loved nature and found great joy in watching the chipmunks, squirrels, and especially the hummingbirds that would visit her in her yard. Nina cherished the dogs that shared their lives with her and she was most grateful for their companionship.
Nina taught her family so many wonderful traits such as never giving up, being humble and to believe in Christ. She was a survivor,. She overcame many hardship and she continued to persevere throughout her life. She was quick witted and had a great sense of humor. She could put you in your place or make a joke that would keep you in stitches and you might not realize it for several minutes until it hit you.
She is preceded in death by: her husband, Russell Dennis Carman; her son, Charles Anthony Carman; her grandson, Dustin Lee Carman; and her son-in-law, Jeffery Johns.
Survivors include: her daughters, Maria Angelina Carman-Johns, Mia Charmaine Marsh (Lennie), Analisa Denise Holland (David); her grandchildren, Joseph Carman (Amber), Sarah Quarles, Matthew Johns (Erica), Ronnie Dean Marsh (Alexis), Nina Nicole Reece (Wesley), Lesa Rachelle Holland, David Holland, Jr. (Lexi), Devin Ian Holland; her great-grandchildren, Joseph, Abbigail, Madison, KateLynn, Alexis, Matthew, Liam, Ingram, Amethyst; and numerous friends and friends of the family that will cherish her memory.
