

Oscar Edward Brooks, 80, of Columbus, GA passed away Tuesday, March 8, 2016 in Moultrie, GA. A Funeral Service will be held Saturday, March 12, 2016 at 2:00 PM in the Mill Room of Striffler-Hamby with Pastor Robert French officiating. Interment will be at Parkhill Cemetery. The family will receive friends Friday evening from 5:00-7:00 pm in the Mill Room, 4071 Macon Road, Columbus, GA 31907.
Mr. Brooks, son of the late Mamie Lee Tillman and Samuel Edward Brooks, was born January 19, 1936 in Barbour County, AL. Mr. Brooks was retired as a Welder from Lummus Industries. After retirement, he started his own welding business, B & B Welding. He was known as “The Tool Man” at Lee County Flea Market. Mr. Brooks was a member of North Highland Church for 28 years. He was a Mason at Mt. Hermon Masonic Lodge #304, a member of The Valley of Columbus Scottish Rites and a member of the Senior Adult Bible Study. He was a former volunteer firefighter for Columbus. Mr. Brooks was a lifelong member of “The Handyman” magazine, loved woodworking and was a fabricator. As a young man, he rebuilt racecars.
Other than his parents, Mr. Brooks is preceded in death by his wife of 60 years, Dollie Elizabeth Brooks and his sister, Sallie Mae Sheppard. He is survived by his 4 children Ed Brooks (Dolly) of Thomasville, GA., Darlene Christmas (Joe) of Columbus, GA., Tammy Moore (Philip) of Columbus, GA and Penny Green (Steve) of Corpus Christi, TX; grandchildren James, Joe, Donna, Beth, Kristy, David, Tommy, Melanie, Gene, Travis, Sierra and Kaleb; sixteen great grandchildren; 4 great great grandchildren; his beloved hero “Buddy” and a host of special friends.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to North Highland Church Mission Fund, 7300 Whittlesy Blvd, Columbus, GA 31909.
