Oscar Newman March 3, 1937 - August 11, 2010 COLUMBUS, GA— Oscar "Byrd" Newman, age 73, resident of Columbus, died on August 11, 2010 at Vista Care Hospice, Columbus. Funeral services are scheduled at the Chapel of Striffler-Hamby Mortuary, 4071 Macon Road, Columbus on Saturday, August 14, 2010, 10 a.m. with Reverend Udell Addison and Reverend Thomas Pope officiating. Private interment will follow at Parkhill Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Friday, August 13, 2010 from 6-8 p.m. Mr. Newman, son of the late Oscar and Nancy Newman, was born March 3, 1937 in Headland, AL. He was a member of Central Baptist Church, Columbus and was retired from National Linen Service, where he dedicated 30 years of faithful service. Mr. Newman was preceded in death by a daughter, Deborah Brown; a step-son, Darrl Dubose; five brothers; and two sisters. He is survived by his wife, Myrtle Newman of Columbus; two daughters, Wendy Newman Stanton and her husband Joseph of Smiths Station, AL, and Amy Kuntz and her husband Jeff of Cataula, GA; three step-sons, Michael Singleton and his wife Margie of Hamilton, GA, Dean Singleton and his wife Angie of Columbus, and Michael Dubose and his wife Teresia of Salem, AL; nine grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; other relatives and friends.
